A year of progress across Project Greensand.

Over the past year, Project Greensand has moved from plans to execution. Across the entire CCS value chain, tangible progress has been made - onshore, offshore and across borders.

Since the Final Investment Decision (FID) was reached in December 2024, several key milestones have been delivered:

▫️ The first dedicated offshore CO₂ carrier built in the EU - Carbon Destroyer 1 - is under construction in the Netherlands and was launched in May 2025

▫️ The Greensand CO₂ terminal at the Port Esbjerg is taking shape following groundbreaking, with storage tanks delivered to site

▫️ Denmark’s first permit for full-scale CO₂ storage, granted by the Danish Energy Agency, authorising CO₂ storage in the Nini West field in the Danish part of the North Sea

Each milestone reflects close collaboration between partners, contractors and teams across multiple countries, and a shared focus on delivering safe, permanent and scalable CO₂ storage.

With storage operations planned to commence in mid-2026, Greensand is on course to become the EU’s first fully operational offshore CO₂ storage facility.

Thank you to everyone involved for the strong commitment and professionalism throughout the year. The work continues as we move towards start-up in mid-2026.
