Yesterday, we welcomed press and political stakeholders onboard the world’s first dedicated offshore CO2 carrier, Carbon Destroyer 1, in Esbjerg. The visit marked a key milestone for Project Greensand, as the core infrastructure is now coming into place and moving towards operations this summer.

The programme included a tour of the vessel, offering a closer look at the final adjustments as the ship prepares for its role in transporting CO₂ from the onshore terminal to offshore storage in the Danish North Sea.

Mads Gade, CEO of INEOS Energy Europe shared an update on the project:

“The core infrastructure to the EU’s first operational, large-scale CCS value chain is now coming into place. With Greensand INEOS is paving the way for a future CCS market in Denmark and Europe. We are showing that it is both technically and commercially possible. Next phase is to initiate operations - and for Europe to continue scaling CO₂ capture.”

Among the participants was Jesper Frost Rasmussen, Mayor of Esbjerg alongside MP’s Benny Engelbrecht and Anders Kronborg.

Thank you to all participants for the visit and the good discussions.

Greensand Future is funded by the Innovation Fund.
