Esbjerg Mayor visits Greensand CO₂ terminal under construction.
Today, Mayor of Esbjerg Jesper Frost Rasmussen visited the construction site of the Greensand Future CO₂ terminal for a tour and briefing on the progress being made.
The visit comes shortly after the arrival of the first two CO₂ storage tanks at Port Esbjerg – another milestone in the development of the Greensand Future CO2 terminal – before captured CO2 is transported offshore for safe and permanent storage in the Danish North Sea.
“The arrival of the tanks and the ongoing construction work are the physical proof that the project is moving forward at pace. This terminal is a crucial part of building the full CCS value chain and enabling safe, efficient, and large-scale CO₂ storage,” says Mads Gade, CEO of INEOS Energy Europe.
The CO₂ terminal will temporarily store CO₂ from Danish capture sites – including local biogas producers – before it is shipped offshore via Carbon Destroyer 1.
“It’s great to see this kind of progress here in Esbjerg. The CO₂ terminal is not just a technical milestone – it’s also a symbol of Esbjerg’s role in the green transition and a step toward new, green jobs in our region,”says Jesper Frost Rasmussen, Mayor of Esbjerg.
