First CO₂ storage tanks arrive in Esbjerg.
Another milestone in the development of the Greensand Future CO₂ terminal:
The first two out of six storage tanks have now arrived safely at Port Esbjerg from our partner Tankbouw Rootselaar in the Netherlands. The tanks are now ready for installation on site.
Each of these tanks is built to handle the demands of industrial-scale CO₂ storage:
• 6.5 meters in diameter
• 40 meters in length
• Approx. 1,000 m³ capacity of liquefied CO₂
• 172 tonnes dry weight
Once operational, the terminal will temporarily store CO₂ from capture sites before it is transported offshore to the Nini Field for safe and permanent storage beneath the seabed in the Danish North Sea.
This terminal is a vital link in the full CCS value chain – and a cornerstone in the Greensand CCS project.
As the EU aims to store 250 million tonnes of CO₂ annually by 2040, infrastructure like this is key to enabling cross-border climate solutions.
