First CO₂ tanks installed on Carbon Destroyer 1.

Another key milestone has been reached in the Greensand Future project: The first CO₂ storage tanks have now been installed on board Carbon Destroyer 1 - the first dedicated offshore CO₂ carrier built in the EU.

The tanks were manufactured by Geldof (Engicon nv) in Belgium and installed in the Dutch port of Delfzijl. Once in operation, they will carry liquefied CO₂ from Greensand CO2 Terminal in Port Esbjerg to the offshore storage site at the Nini Field in the Danish North Sea.

Each tank is a feat of engineering and the tanks make Carbon Destroyer 1 capable of transporting large volumes of CO₂ safely and efficiently - playing a critical role in the EU’s path to climate neutrality.

This progress is only possible thanks to strong collaboration between partners across Europe. We are proud to be working closely with Royal Wagenborg, Geldof and many others to turn vision into reality.

More milestones ahead as we move steadily towards first large-scale storage in 2026.
