German delegation visits Esbjerg to learn more about Project Greensand.
On Wednesday 8 October 2025, INEOS Energy had the pleasure of welcoming a delegation from the German state of Baden-Württemberg. The group included representatives from the Ministry of the Environment, Climate and Energy Economy, The University of Freiburg, and several German companies.
The visit focused on gaining insights into the INEOS-led Project Greensand – from the successful pilot phase, which marked the first ever offshore CO₂ storage in the Danish North Sea, to the ongoing development of what is expected to become the EU’s first full-scale CO₂ storage site.
The delegation also visited the CO₂ terminal under construction at Port of Esbjerg, which will serve as the onshore hub for temporary storage before CO₂ is transported offshore to the Greensand reservoir in the Danish North Sea.
The day offered engaging discussions and thoughtful questions – a clear reflection of the growing European interest in Carbon Capture and Storage and the ambition to enable cross-border CO₂ storage solutions for countries like Germany.
