The CO₂ terminal for Greensand Future is taking shape. In August, the first tanks for temporary CO₂ storage were successfully pressure tested at our partner Tankbouw Rootselaar in the Netherlands.
Each of the tanks is a technical heavyweight:
• 6.5 meters in diameter
• 40 meters in length
• Capacity of approx. 1,000 m³ of liquefied CO₂
• A dry weight of 172 tonnes
Once in operation, these tanks will temporarily hold CO₂ captured at Danish biogas plants before it is transported offshore to the Nini Field in the Danish North Sea for safe and permanent storage beneath the seabed.
This terminal is a key component in building the full CCS value chain. It will help deliver EU’s first full-scale offshore CCS project
As the European Commission estimates that the EU must capture and store 250 million tonnes of CO₂ annually by 2040 to reach net-zero in 2050, infrastructure like this will be essential.
