The moment it became real.

Yesterday, we launched and named Carbon Destroyer 1 – the first dedicated offshore CO₂ carrier built in the EU. A key enabler for EU’s first full-scale offshore CO₂ storage infrastructure - Greensand - is now afloat.

But this is about more than one ship.

Starting in 2040, the European Commission estimates that the EU will need to capture and permanently store 250 million tonnes of CO₂ every year to achieve climate neutrality by 2050. To reach that target, we need scalable, cross-border infrastructure that connects emissions with certified storage – safely, reliably, and permanently.

Project Greensand is helping lay the foundation.

This vessel, built by Royal Wagenborg for INEOS on behalf of the Greensand partnership, is a vital link in that chain. It’s a bridge between emitters and reservoirs, and between today’s challenge and tomorrow’s solution.
